LBL PLUS
Capsulution multilayer nanocrystals for oral delivery of poorly solubles
What is LBL Technology®?
LBL is a layer-by-layer coating technology for the coating of microsized but also nanosized materials (e.g. drugs, nutraceuticals, cosmetics), including large molecules (e.g. TNF alpha). Negatively charged material is coated by a layer of positively charged polymers (or macromolecules). In the next step, excess non-adsorbed polymer is removed and a negatively charged polymer is added to form a second, this time negatively charged polymer layer. These steps are alternating repeated until the desired thickness of multi-layers is reached. The number of layers depends on the application purpose.
Benefits of LBL Technology®?
Examples: exact tuning of wall thickness and structure, surface modification, precise design of functional surfaces, hydrophilization of hydrophobic materials, customized release profiles, reduced enzymatic degradation, protection of peptides & proteins.
Novel LBLPLUS Nanocrystal Technology
LBLPLUS was specifically developed for the coating of microcrystals and also nanocrystals, e.g. of poorly soluble drugs. The drug powder is diminuted to the target size by mechanical energy (e.g. bead mill, high pressure homogenization). In contrast to “simple” LBL, during this size reduction process the coating is performed without intermediate removal of access coating polymer. The result is a nanocrystal coated with a thick sterically stabilizing polymer layer (e.g. > 10 nm).
With LBLPLUS Nanocrystals...
- Higher physical stability against electrolytes in the body
- Minimization of nanocrystal aggregation which leads to loss of nano properties.
